We use the Cyberware 3030 PS/RGB scanning system to create a 3D image of the patient’s head. The scanning head moves 360 degrees around the seated subject and uses safe, low-intesity laser light to trace the contours of the skin and face. A full head scan is required to obtain all of the surfaces affected by the scars, not just the central area of the face. Simultaneouly, the system senses and records the color of the area it scans. This data is sent to a computer, which processes it, and is then able to duplicate it on screen.
As opposed to the old method the entire process takes about seven seconds to scan the entire face.
The scan is sent to Total Contact where we smooth scars, and create a mold specific to the patient’s needs according to their therapist and physician.

From the mold, a mask is vacuum-formed to duplicate the shape and size of the patient’s face. The eyes, nose, and mouth holes are specified by the therapist and trimmed out by Total Contact.
The mold and mask are shipped to the patient’s burn center within 3 to 5 days. A mask can be manufactured and shipped same day if required. The mask is fit to the patient’s face and maintained over the life of the mask by the patient’s occupational or physical therapist.
